STORRS, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Tennis opened the fall slate this past weekend at UConn for a "hidden dual" format tournament against the host Huskies, Quinnipiac and Army West Point.
Sandra Bozinovic went 3-0 in singles in her Stags' debut, and
Katarina Plumtree picked up a pair of singles wins to lead the effort up in Storrs.
Â
"The mantra for our first weekend was 'compete', and we competed had all weekend," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "We had some very good wins against all three programs, which bodes well as our season progresses. The whole team has worked hard every day, and I'm very excited for this season."
Â
In addition to success for Bozinovic and Plumtree,
Scarlett Hutchinson won her only singles match of the weekend, while
Aina March and
Amanda Nowak each notched a victory. The tandem of Hutchinson and
Francesca Karman also picked up a win on the doubles court for the Stags.
Â
While there was no official team scoring this weekend, the final tally saw Fairfield earned two singles and one doubles win against UConn, and three singles wins apiece over Army West Point and perennial MAAC contender Quinnipiac.
Â
Up next, Fairfield heads to Bethlehem for the Lehigh Invitational on Sept. 25-26.
