FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University Women's Soccer goalkeeper
Gena Pike was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Defensive Player of the Week for the second-straight week, the league announced. Pike was spectacular in net as she registered a 0.48 goals against average and a .900 save percentage in Fairfield's unbeaten week.
"I thought Gena had a good week and helped in our success," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "She is establishing a lot of confidence in herself at an important time in our season as we enter MAAC play."
Pike tallied a season-high seven saves in Fairfield's most recent 1-0 victory over Dartmouth, extending Fairfield's unbeaten streak to five matches. Pike registered her second shutout of the season as she helped to snap Dartmouth's five match unbeaten streak which included a 1-1 draw at No. 8 Georgetown.
For the week, Pike led the MAAC with her 0.48 GAA and her .900 save percentage which also included three saves in the draw against Hartford.
Pike and the Stags will look to continue their momentum when they begin the most important part of the season, the MAAC slate. Fairfield will travel to Marist on Saturday for a 1pm kickoff against the Red Foxes.
