TULSA, Okla. – Kaya Gore and
Charlie Morkel represented Fairfield University Men's Tennis with strong performances this weekend at the ITA All-American Championships in Oklahoma. Both Stags were ousted by high major competition in their first action in the prequalifying draw, with Gore capping the weekend with a three-set win in the consolation draw.

"This was a great experience for Kaya and Charlie, and I think we showed that Fairfield deserved to share the court with some of the elite programs in college tennis," said Head Coach
Jeff Bricker. "We still have a lot to prove as a team, but this was a great step in the right direction. Hopefully this weekend gave both guys some confidence going into ITA Regionals in less than two weeks."

Gore and Morkel were the first two Stags to ever compete in the national tournament.

Due to the weather, Saturday's action in Oklahoma moved from Tulsa to Stillwater. As a result, Morkel opened his weekend playing a true round match at Oklahoma State against the Cowboys' talented freshman Francisco Pini. Pini held the edge in two close sets, winning the match by a 6-4, 6-4 count.

Gore earned a bye into the Round 128, where he fell to Conor Gannon from the University of Tennessee.by a score of 6-2, 6-4.

In Sunday's consolation draw, Morkel was topped by Warren Fulgenzi from Incarnate Word by a 6-3, 6-1 score. Gore drew Christopher Cahour from Southern Mississippi, overcoming a tiebreak loss in the opening set to earn a win for the Stags by a final tally of 6-7 (3), 6-0, 6-4.

Up next, the duo will rejoin their teammates back on campus for the first dual match of the season on Sunday, Oct. 10 against Sacred Heart. The women will challenge the Pioneers on the Walsh Athletic Center outdoor courts at 11 a.m. followed by the men's match at approximately 2 p.m.
