Doug Holub Signs New Contract through 2023-24 Campaign

The Director of Fairfield Golf was the MAAC Men’s and Women’s Coach of the Year last spring

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Director of Fairfield University Golf Doug Holub has signed a contract to remain with the Stags through the 2023-24 season, as announced on Friday by Director of Athletics Paul Schlickmann. Holub was named the MAAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year as leader of the Stags this past spring.

"Under Coach Holub's leadership, our Men's and Women's Golf programs have shown continued growth and progression both culturally and competitively," said Schlickmann. "A thoughtful and modern approach, positive energy, a renewed sense of commitment and recalibrated aspirations are the tenets of Doug's tenure at the helm. The young men and women in our programs and the trajectory of the results they have achieved are reflective of that vision and those expectations.  Coach Holub is a valued member of our Stags team and family and I am confident that he will continue the development of Fairfield Golf into a championship caliber program."

In the spring of 2021, Fairfield Men's Golf finished third at the Championship – their best showing since 2015 – and landed three golfers on the All-MAAC team. On the women's side, the Stags rose to fourth at the MAAC Championship with Sydney Nethercott collecting All-MAAC laurels.

In recognition of the Stags' performance, Holub became the first coach in conference history to win both MAAC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year in the same season. He is Fairfield's first-ever women's Coach of the Year and joins three-time winner Len Roberto as Fairfield's second recipient on the men's side.

Twice under Holub's leadership (2019 and 2021), Fairfield Women's Golf has earned the WGCA Mark Laesch Award as the most improved team in the nation.

"I am grateful for the support of Athletic Director Paul Schlickmann, Deputy Director of Athletics Zach Dayton and the entire athletics staff," said Holub. "I am proud to be the coach of these fine young men and women. We are all fortunate to call Fairfield 'home' and are looking forward to competing for the MAAC Championship for years to come."

A member of the Professional Golfers' Association of America, Holub has been Director of Fairfield Golf since the fall of 2016 and also has served as a teaching professional at Fairfield Wheeler Golf Club since 2011.

Holub is a graduate of Fairfield Prep and earned a degree in Sociology from Florida Southern College in 1999.
