FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After a rare mid-season weeks' long rest, the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will take the pitch for the first time in over 10 days when they travel to Saint Peter's to take on the Peacocks on Wednesday at 3pm. This will be the first of two-straight road matches for the Stags, who will also make the journey to Western New York to take on Canisius this weekend.
The Stags will enter the match with very fresh legs as this is their first outing since a 5-1 win over Niagara to begin their conference slate on Sept. 21.
Brooke Hernon led the Stags with a career-high five points against the Purple Eagles coming on two goals and one assist. Hernon's scores came within five minutes apart to begin the second half, as the Stags scored all five goals in the first 51 minutes of the game.
Gabby Diodati opened the scoring with a penalty kick goal in the second minute and
Liz Dumas would net her second-straight multi-goal game at home as she touched net in the 22nd and 25th minutes.
Those five goals helped the Stags take the top spot in the conference with a league-high 19 goals scored with a 2.11 scoring average. Fairfield currently holds the 60th best scoring offense in the country, putting them in the top 17 percent in the nation.
The Stags have never lost to the Peacocks, holding a 26-0-2 record all-time against Saint Peter's. They are a perfect 13-0 on the road in the series while not conceding a road goal since 2011.
This season, the Peacocks enter with a 3-6 record and a 1-1 mark in the MAAC after a 1-0 victory at Siena, their first win over the Saints in 21 years. Brooke Boutchie netted the game-winner with a free kick in the 28th minute. She became the fifth different Peacock to score this season with Madison Greenberg leading the group with two.
In net, Victoria Scarratt has recorded all three of the Peacock's wins after tallying 50 saves and a 1.27 goals against average.
The Stags will take their annual trek to Western New York to take on Canisius on Saturday at noon.
