Stags Host Manhattan on ‘Herd For a Cure’ Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will host the Manhattan Jaspers on Saturday afternoon in a match that will mean more than just a conference game in the standings. The program will also be hosting their annual "Herd for a Cure" match where the Stags will be accepting donations and raising money for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. Fans are encouraged to wear pink to support the cause with kickoff scheduled for 2pm.

The Stags will be looking to get back to their winning ways after having their three-game MAAC winning streak snapped against Quinnipiac with a 3-0 score on Rafferty Stadium. Fairfield out-shot the Bobcats 13-10 and have a 7-5 margin on shots on target, but could not find the full force behind their shots. The Stags had opportunities to touch the back of the net, none better than in the 60th minute when Gabby Diodati sent a cross into the box and Liz Dumas beat her defender but her header just sailed high over the bar.

Despite the loss, the Stags still sit in third place in the conference standings with nine points courtesy in large part because of their offense. Fairfield still leads the MAAC with 25 goals, three more than the next placed Rider.

Diodati enters play as the MAAC leader with six assists, and also sits sixth all-time in Fairfield history with 16 career helpers. Liz Dumas is tied for the conference lead with six goals and ranks second with 13 points.

The Jaspers snapped a five-game losing streak in their last time out with a convincing 4-1 win against Iona. Arianna Montefusco leads the squad with five goals and 12 points, after registering the eventual game-winner against the Gaels.

The Stags hold a 22-3-6 record all-time against Manhattan with a 11-1-1 clip at home. Manhattan has achieved their only two results in their last two appearances to campus with a tie on Rafferty Stadium in 2015 and their only victory at Lessing Field in. 2017.

Fairfield will close out their longest homestand of the season when they host Marist on Wednesday night at 7pm.
