Rally Falls Short For Baseball at Hartford

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Fairfield University baseball team rallied from an 11-1 deficit to have the tying run at the plate in the ninth inning, but the Hartford Hawks were able to escape with a 13-11 decision over the Stags. Fairfield scored four runs in the ninth inning to cut into a 13-7 deficit.

Eight different Stags (0-4) collected hits on the afternoon with Tom Ryan, Mitch Williams, and Eric Cerno all recording multi-hit games. The 12 hits and 11 runs scored were both season-high for the Stags, and they would need every bit of that offense to keep the game close.

The Hawks (1-3) scored 11 runs powered by five home runs, including two off the bat Hatford's Bardzell. Trailing 11-1 entering the sixth, the Stags used power to start mounting their comeback. Anthony Boselli launched his first home run as a Stag to the right of the scoreboard, a two-run shot that would be Fairfield's only runs in the inning.

The Stags manufactured four runs in the seventh by drawing three walks. Dylan Reynolds drove in a run with a RBI ground out to second and Drew Blake plated a run with a sacrifice fly. Those were sandwiched between a Cerno two-run single.

Fairfield would be down to their final out before collecting four runs in the ninth to put a scare into the Hawks. Mitch Williams cleared the bases with a double to center and Tom Ryan would follow with a RBI single to put the tying run at the plate. However, Hartford's Plourde was able to get the final out of the contest.

The Stags will now hit the road to travel to George Mason for a three-game series this weekend starting on Friday at 2:30pm.
