LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – Kevin Duncan posted a 10th place performance to lead the Fairfield University men's golf team at the 201 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship. The Stags finished the three-round tournament at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in seventh place.
Duncan carded a 79 today to round out his 54-hole score at 228 (+12). He finished just three strokes out of the top five and eight shots behind the pace set by MacLeod Trophy winner Mike Winter of Saint Peter's.
Eric Austin placed 15th overall with a 231 (75-80-76) followed by Alex Ferrante at 238 (81-76-81). Thomas Urciuoli (84-81-77) and Alex Taylor (87-80-77) each had their best round of the weekend today to conclude their 2017 campaigns. Taylor, who won the MacLeod Trophy in 2014, wrapped up his Fairfield career this afternoon in Lake Buena Vista.
The Stags were also recognized by the MAAC for their performance in the classroom. Fairfield placed a conference-best five golfers on the MAAC All-Academic Team: Austin, Ferrante, Urciuoli, Kevin Walsh and Matthew Walsh.
The MAAC Championship was claimed by Saint Peter's, which posted the best team score of the weekend (295) to surge past Siena to the top of the leaderboard. The Peacocks outshot the Saints by 10 strokes on Sunday to win the team title by three shots.
