FAIRFIELD, Conn. – With only four matches remaining in the 2017 regular season, the Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will travel to Jersey City, N.J., to take on the Saint Peter's Peacocks on Wednesday at 3pm. With a victory, the Stags will move above .500 in conference play, as they currently sit in seventh in the league standings with nine points.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: Bre Cocuzzo earned her first career win while
Alex Madden and
Sara Plowman both netted goals as the Stags defeated Niagara 2-1 to snap a three game losing skid. The Stags dominated the offensive time of possession, out-shooting the Purple Eagles 17-10 with 12 of those attempts being on target. In her first collegiate appearance, Cocuzzo tallied five saves.
Gabby Diodati was credited with the assist on Plowman's goal, which came five minutes into the match. Madden's marker in the second stanza would prove to be the game-winner. The freshman controlled the game on the offensive front, finishing with a career-high eight shots and six on target.
THE PEACOCKS SCOUTING REPORT: The Peacocks will enter the match with a 3-9 overall record and a 1-5 mark in conference play, with the lone win coming against Marist. The offense is run through Barbara Paiva, who is tied for fourth in the conference with five goals. Victoria Scarratt has started 11 of the 12 matches in goal, supporting a 2.73 goals against average and a .763 save percentage. The Stags will be looking to bounce back in the series after the Peacocks took a point in a 1-1 draw last season. Fairfield has still never lost in the series, holding a 24-0-2 record.
UP NEXT: Fairfield will return home on Saturday night when they host Manhattan at 7pm. The game will also serve as Fairfield's "Herd For a Cure" match as fans can purchase pink t-shirts during the match with all proceeds going to benefit breast cancer research.
