Fairfield Travels To In-State Rival Quinnipiac on Wednesday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – After completing their longest home stand of the season, the Fairfield University women's soccer team will stay in the state of Connecticut when they travel to Hamden, Conn., for a Wednesday match against the Quinnipiac Bobcats. This match will start a road stretch for the Stags where they will play four of their next five games away from Lessing Field.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags suffered their second-straight 2-1 overtime loss as they dropped their last decision against Siena. As with the match against Canisius, the Stags took the first lead of the game and took the advantage into halftime. Brenna Brown was the Stags to touch the back of the net in the 19th minute when she tapped the ball away from the Siena goalkeeper and notched her fourth goal of the season. Siena tied the game early in the second half and won in the 98th minute with both scores coming from their captain Kristen Connors. Fairfield came inches away from taking away the three points but Brown's overtime shot hit the underside of the crossbar and Julia McGuire's rebounded effort went wide.

FAIRFIELD VS QUINNIPIAC: The Stags are currently unbeaten in the three game series with the Bobcats, tying the two home contests and winning a 4-1 decision at Hamden in 2014. Brenna Brown was the Stag to open the scoring in last year's match after heading in a free kick. The Stags led for nearly 60 minutes before surrendering the tying goal with less than seven minutes remaining. Cassidy Boegel is the only other active Stag to tally a score against the Bobcats, recording a pair including the game-winner in the 2014 road win.

THE BOBCATS SCOUTING REPORT: The Stags are going to have contend with statistically one of the best offenses in the conference, with Quinnipiac entering the match leading the league with 5.67 points per game. The Bobcats have scored 17 goals this season, just one score shy from tying Marist for the league lead. The reigning MAAC Rookie of the Year Nadya Gill has continued her impressive play and is leading the team with four goals, a number that ties her for fourth in the MAAC. Jess Fontaine, the Bobcat who tied last year's match, is currently tied with freshman Ally  Grunstein for the team lead with four assists. Four different goalkeepers have been used so far this season, but freshman Olivia Myszewski has gotten the starting nod in the first two MAAC games. Quinnipiac is also a physical side, recording 16 yellow cards through the first nine games of the season, placing them second in the country.

UP NEXT: The Stags will take a Saturday afternoon road trip when they travel to Iona on Saturday at 1pm for a match that will be streamed on ESPN3.
