DEAL, N.J. – Kevin Duncan took home medalist honors to lead the Fairfield University men's golf team to a first-place tie at the Monmouth Invitational. The freshman carded a 74 at the event, piloting the Stags to a team mark of 309 on the par-71 course at Deal Golf & Country Club.
Duncan shared first place at +3 with Monmouth's Kyle Dresher. The Stags' rookie claimed medalist honors by virtue of his low score of 36 on the back nine. Duncan previously earned individual laurels at the ECAC Championship during the fall season.
Also factoring into the team scoring for the Stags were Thomas Urciuoli with a third-place 76 (+5), Kellen Jordan (79, +8) and Eric Austin (80, +9).
Though Fairfield tied Monmouth atop the team leaderboard, the host Hawks are the official champions of the tournament, as their fifth-best individual score topped the fifth-best score by a Stag.
Fairfield and Monmouth were followed on the leaderboard by defending MAAC champion Saint Peter's (318) as well as Hofstra (327) and Lafayette (344).
The Stags return to action this Saturday, April 16 for 36 holes at the Yale Spring Invitational. After this week's slate, the Stags will play a round at the Saint Peter's Peacock Invitational before heading to Disney's Magnolia Golf Course for the 2016 MAAC Championship on April 22-24.
