FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University women's soccer team will officially start the second half of their Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) campaign when they travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face the Marist Red Foxes on Saturday at 7pm. The Stags enter their sixth MAAC contest two points behind a playoff spot with a 1-3-1 conference record.
IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags are coming off their first draw of the season with a 1-1 tie against visiting Saint Peter's, the first draw in the all-time series since the 1995 MAAC Tournament. The final score might not indicate, but Fairfield absolutely dominated the offensive end of the match, outshooting Saint Peter's 43-7 and took 15 corner kicks compared to three for the Peacocks. However, Brenna Brown was the only Stag to touch the back of the net, connecting on one of her career-high 13 shots. The Saint Peter's goalkeeper made 15 of the team's 17 saves and kept the Peacocks in the match until they were able to find the equalizer in the 60th minute. In the match, Alana Leahy recorded her first career point assisting on Brown's score.
FAIRFIELD VS MARIST: Since 2004, the matches between Fairfield and Marist have been dramatic with seven of the 13 matches going into overtime and both sides winning four matches a piece. The Red Foxes came out on top in a big way last season with a 7-2 victory on Lessing Field on Senior Day. Jenny Jacobs and Sara Plowman were the two Stags to score last season and join Cassidy Boegel and Pamela Coufos as the other active Stags to score in the series. Out of that group, Coufos leads the active members with three points, picking up the game-winning assist during her rookie season.
THE MARIST SCOUTING REPORT: With a victory over the Stags, Marist would jump into a tie with Fairfield in the standings with four points. The Red Foxes are led by the top-two goal scorers in the MAAC in junior Camille Bowen and freshman Keri Bradley. Bowen is the conference leader and checks in sixth in the country with 10 goals while Bradley is tied for second in the league with six tallies. Both players scored in their most recent contest, a 3-3 draw against Iona.
UP NEXT: The Stags will not have a mid-week game during this turn in the MAAC schedule and will next travel to Niagara to take on the Purple Eagles on Saturday at 1pm.
