Brenna Brown is the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – What can Brown do for the Stags? Well, on Friday she led the Stags to their first-ever win against Rhode Island and now she has an individual award to show for it. After tying a career-high with four points on two assists and a goal, Brenna Brown was named the MAAC Offensive Player of the Week for the first time in her career.

“I am very pleased that Brenna has been honored as the MAAC Player of the Week,” Head Coach Jim O'Brien said. “Brenna looks back to normal after a long absence due to a rare injury last fall. We hope to continue making progress as we gear up for conference play this weekend.”

Brown missed the final half of last season due to a blood clot in her right shoulder, which she had to get surgically fixed. Doctors would have to balloon the vein open because it had collapsed and also remove a rib from the shoulder.

The game against Rhode Island was her best performance since returning to the lineup She was at the forefront for all three Fairfield goals, assisting on the first two and then scoring her eighth career goal, with all action coming in the first half. To score a goal herself, Brown sprinted to the net and jumped to head the ball, crashing into a defender, but was still able to get a piece of it for a score. The two assists, set a career best (as she only had one assist during her first two years). Brown helped the Stags defeat a Rhode Island squad that came into the match fresh off a win against SEC foe Alabama, and were also ranked sixth in the NSCAA Mid-Atlantic Poll.

Brown and the Stags are back in action on Monday night when they play in their sixth-straight home match, hosting Jesuit rival Holy Cross at 6pm.
