Stags Tie for Second Place at Peacock Invitational

NESHANIC STATION, N.J. – Led by an even-par 72 from Ricky Dowling, the Fairfield University men's golf team finished tied for second place at the Peacock Invitational hosted by Saint Peter's. With a team score of 293, the Stags were just one stroke off the pace set by the host Peacocks.

Dowling's 72 tied him for sixth place in a pack of six golfers. Five competitors tied for the low round of 71.

Alex Ferrante and Steve Burak were both two shots back as each golfer carded a 73. Eric Austin posted a 75, and Patrick Lynch fired a 78. Peter Repetto competed as an individual and shot an 82 at Neshanic Valley Country Club.

Fairfield's 293 was good for a second-place tie with Fairleigh Dickinson, falling one stroke shy of Saint Peter's aggregate total of 292. The tightly-contested event saw the top six teams finish within five strokes of the lead and the 40 individuals within five shots of the pace.

Other team scores of interest for the Stags include Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes Rider (295), Monmouth (297) and Manhattan (306).

Individual medalist honors went to Saint Peter's Brian Grubbs, who emerged from a logjam of five golfers at one-under par due to a tiebreaker.

The Stags are back in New Jersey this Thursday, April 16 to wrap-up the regular season at the Monmouth Invitational. Alongside the Stags and host Hawks will be MAAC opponents Iona, Manhattan and Saint Peter's.

The 2015 MAAC Championship is slated for April 24-26 at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
