Stags Place Third at MacDonald Cup

NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's golf team played 36 holes on Saturday at The Course at Yale, competing for the 2015 MacDonald Cup. Led by a sixth-place showing from Alex Ferrante, the Stags finished in third place in the 13-team event.

Ferrante carded a two-round score of 144 (71-73) on the par-70 course, wrapping up the tournament five shots off the pace. Eric Austin (75-72) and Thomas Urciuoli (73-74) each added a 147, and Kevin Duncan was one stroke behind his two teammates at 148 (75-73).

Harvard ran away with the MacDonald Cup team title, taking the crown by 12 strokes with a 568. Minnesota took second place, topping Fairfield by six shots with a 580.

The Golden Gophers were led by individual medalist Jon DuToit, who was the lone golfer in the 73-man field to finish the weekend below par with a 139 (72-67).

Fairfield, which won its first-ever ECAC Championship earlier this past week, return to action next Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 12-13) for the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club.
