Stags Look to End Season on a High Note

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Although the Stags will not qualify for this year's MAAC Tournament, there is still an opportunity to end the season with some momentum. Fairfield will travel will take on a Saint Peter's team they have never suffered a loss against, as they wrap up the 2015 campaign. Kickoff is slated for Wednesday at 2pm.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags ran into a red-hot Rider Broncs team and forced overtime, but would fall on a Kourtney Cunningham golden goal just three minutes into overtime. With the win, Rider secured an unbeaten home season where they went 6-0 on their home pitch and did not surrender a single goal. Fairfield was out-shot 12-3 after halftime, but the chances they did have were accurate. Six of the seven shots the Stags took were on goal, but last year's MAAC Tournament MVP Bethany-May Howard was up for the task, stopping all six shots. Jenna Pike made three saves in the loss and has now entered the Fairfield record book in several categories. Pike is now seventh in program history with a 1.45 goals against average and ninth with 77 saves.

WRAPPING UP THE CAMPAIGN: The 2015 season was expected to be a year where the freshman class gained valuable experience in the collegiate game. That rang true. The rookies accounted for five goals and eight of the 19 assists for the team this season. Entering the final game, Brenna Brown is the team's leading scorer after missing half of last season with a blood clot in her shoulder. Karolyn Collins is tied for a team-high four assists, after tallying a team-high seven last season. After recording nine goals last season, Cassidy Boegel has notched four this season, one shy of a team-high. Jenna Pike has improved down the stretch and owns a 1.17 goals against average over her last five outings.

FAIRFIELD VS SAINT PETER'S: The Stags have never lost to Saint Peter's and are 23-0-1 all-time against the Peacocks. That only draw came in the MAAC Tournament in 1995, when the Stags advanced in penalty kicks after four overtimes. Since that game, Fairfield has won 19-straight and have out-scored Saint Peter's 84-5. Pamela Coufos was the Player of the Game the last time these two teams met. Coufos scored a goal and tied a Lessing Field record with three assists.

THE PEACOCKS SCOUTING REPORT: Saint Peter's comes in with a 2-14 record and an 0-9 conference mark. However, the Saint Peter's program looks bright on the outset. Freshmen have combined for 11 of the team's 24 goals with Barbara Paiva leading the way with six goals. Michelle Laz has tallied four scores and is tied for the team lead with three assists. Goalkeepers Kelly Jamison and Taylor McLean have split time in goal and have combined for a 4.56 goals against average.
