Fairfield Finishes 10th at the Connecticut Cup

ELLINGTON, Conn. – Led by a 54-score of 219 (+3) from Kevin Duncan, the Fairfield University men's golf team finished 10th at the Connecticut Cup at Ellington Ridge Country Club. The Stags finished second among the five Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference teams at the tournament.

Duncan, who is the 2015 ECAC Champion and reigning ECAC Rookie Golfer of the Month, carded an opening-round 70 on the par-72 course to bolster his team-best score. The freshman was four strokes out of the individual top-10 in the 87-golfer field.

Eric Austin shot even par in the second round to card a 227 (+11) and take 42nd place. Alex Ferrante was one stroke behind him with a 228 (+12).

In addition to finishing 10th overall, the Stags bested MAAC foes Siena, Rider and Iona. Hartford was tops among MAAC teams with a sixth-place score of 885 (+21).

Texas Christian University turned in a record-setting performance to take team and individual honors. The Horned Frogs carded a tournament-record 845 (-19) to win by 26 strokes. Medalist Paul Barjon also set a new tournament standard with a 205 (-11) to edge teammate Chelso Barrett by one shot.

The Stags round out their fall schedule in two weeks at the NEIGA Championship on Oct. 25-26 at Captains Golf Course in Brewster, Mass.
