Stags Head To Siena For Pivotal MAAC Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Nearly every game from here on out is of vital importance for the Stags. The first of those come Wednesday afternoon when Fairfield travels up to Loudonville, N.Y., for a game against the Siena Saints at 3pm. The Saints are currently two points ahead of the Stags in the standings, holding on to that sixth-place spot in the table. The top six schools will advance to the MAAC tournament after the regular season.

IN CASE YOU MISSED IT: The Stags allowed seven goals to visiting Marist on Senior Day as they dropped their second-straight MAAC match 7-2 to the Red Foxes. The Stags went into halftime only trailing by a single goal at 2-1, but would surrender five goals after the intermission. The freshman class accounted for all three points on the afternoon, with Jenny Jacobs and Sara Plowman both netting goals. Jacobs tallied her third score of the season, with all three coming in MAAC contests. Plowman tallied her second career goal and the first since August 28. Holly Habyan was credited with an assist, the third-straight contest she has picked up a helper. Sophia DeVita tallied a career-high seven saves in the first half.

HAVE A HOLLY JOLLY TIME: Holly Habyan could make some history in the game on Wednesday. The freshman became the first Stags' rookie since Nicole Cavallaro in 2007 to dish out an assist in three-straight games. No first year player has accomplished that feat in four-straight games in over a decade. This season, Habyan is tied for the team lead with three assists (Brenna Brown and Elena Santos).

FAIRFIELD VS SIENA: The Stags come in winners of four-straight in the series against the Saints dating back to 2011. Last season, the two teams played on a rain soaked pitch at Lessing Field when Sarah Gerali notched the 'Golden Goal' on the final home game of the season. Cassidy Boegel scored the first goal for the Stags with Karolyn Collins picking up the assist. The two teams met twice in the 2013 season, with the Stags topping Siena 3-0 in Loudonville, and 1-0 in the MAAC Quarterfinals in Florida. Brenna Brown netted a goal and an assist in the 3-0 victory, with Molly Moran as the only other active Stag to record a point. On the road, Fairfield is 6-5-1 against the Saints, the most road losses against any current MAAC team.

THE SIENA SCOUTING REPORT: The Saints have been involved in seven-straight shutouts dating back to September 13. Siena has a 2-5 record during those games, with their most recent victory coming at home against Canisius. Sophomore Michelle Tremblay leads the squad with six assists, which is ranked second in the conference. Madison Vasquez has netted the most goals on the squad with four, already a career-high. In net, senior Liz Rogan has played all but one half in net and has recorded a 1.22 goals against average and a .746 save percentage.

UP NEXT: The Stags return to the site of last year's MAAC Championships with a match against current MAAC leader Monmouth on Saturday at 7pm.
