Men?s Swimming and Diving Welcomes Newcomers

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — The men's swimming and diving team and head coach Janelle Atkinson-Wignall is pleased to announce nine additions to the team this year.

“This is the biggest and most talented recruiting class I have had here at Fairfield. I am very excited to see how they perform, but they will make an immediate impact on the team,” said head coach Atkinson-Wignall.

2015-16 Newcomers:

Brian Burke is a sprint freestyle and breaststroke swimmer from St. Johns Country Day School in Orange Park, Florida.

Chris Capparis is a swimmer from Chatham, New Jersey. As a member of the Saint Peter's Prep swim team, Capparis won the Hudson County Championship four years in a row. Individually, he captained the varsity team, set a school record in the 400 Freestyle Relay, and was the 2015 Hudson County Champion in the 500 and 400 Freestyle Relay.

Nick Delfico is a distance freestyle swimmer.

Edmund Falcigno is a swimmer from Branford, Connecticut. During his senior year he captained the Notre Dame West Haven swim team. Falcigno was State Champion in the 200 Freestyle Relay at the Class M Championships that same year. Falcigno was also a five time All-SCC honoree in the 50 Freestyle, 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle Relay, and 200 Medley Relay. He was also a three time SCC Champion in the 100 Backstroke, 200 Freestyle Relay, and the 200 Medley Relay.

Evan Gorman is a freshman swimmer from Ramsey, New Jersey. He was a member of the Ramsey High School swim team.

Andrew Gormley is a backstroke and butterfly swimmer from Las Cruces, New Mexico. He was a member of the Las Cruces High School swim team. Gormley also served as team captain for the NSCA Junior National Qualifier Team.

Alec Melotto is a breaststroke swimmer from Orange, Connecticut. At Amity Regional High School his team earned a third place finish at the CIAC LL Class Championship in 2012.  In his senior season he was named the captain of the Varsity swim team.

Ben Nelligan is a freestyle and butterfly swimmer from Newtown Square, Pennsylvania.   At the Haverford School, Nelligan was a two time All-American, two time All-League selection, and a two time selection to the second team All-County. The team earned a second place finish at the Eastern InterScholastic Swimming and Diving Championships as well as a second place finish at the Inter-Ac. Nelligan is a four time high school record holder and a two time county record holder.

Justin Touve is a middle distance freestyle swimmer from Potomac Falls High School in Potomac Falls, Virginia.
