LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Fairfield University swimming and diving programs opened up their three-day stay at the ECAC Open Championship with both teams finishing in the top five of the team scoring. The men's team will Saturday's competition in fourth place with 83 team points while the women's program places fifth with 67 team points after the first 24 hours.
The Stags started the day with the diving events as
Andrew Cataldo placed fifth overall in the 3-meter final with 223.90 points while
Tyler Robie scored a spot in eighth place based on his 189.00 points. Lillian Tonole was the Stags' top finisher in the women's 1-meter dive, taking sixth place with 201.90 points. Jade Leblic was one spot behind her teammate with 179.85 points.
Fairfield's first individual event on day one came in the 200 IM with Olivia Glaser taking fourth in the B final based on her time of 2:07.39.
Will Landon was 10
th overall in the men's event and second in the B final by completing the event in 1:51.29.
Isla Bartholomew grabbed the fifth position in the B final of the 50 free to pace Fairfield in the event by touching the wall in 24.23.
Balazs Ament brought home the same finish in the men's 50 free, clocking in at 20.89.
In the 200 free relay events, both the men's and women's foursomes secured fourth place overall. Rylie Bauman, Bartholomew, Sofia Smerechniak, and Lauren Patalano combined for a time of 1:36.89 to earn points for the Stags. The men's relay team consisted of
Cormac Rouse,
Andrew Nathe,
Bobby Regan, and Ament as the group completed the distance in 1:21.82.
The Stags will continue to compete at the ECAC Championship on Saturday, the second day of the three-day event.
