PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – The Fairfield University men's tennis team finished their second day of competition at the Saint Joseph's University Invitational on September 20. Ofir Solomon was the standout for the Stags, advancing to the quarterfinals in Flight 1 singles and Flight 1 doubles.
In Flight 1 doubles, Stag standout duo Cameron Amyot/Solomon downed Villanova's Kelly Donaldson/Joseph Monaldo, 8-2, to advance to the quarterfinals tomorrow. In Flight 2 doubles, Fairfield pair Peter Colliard/Kumeil Hosain fell, 8-2, Saint Joseph's pair Tristan Boustany/Kevin Gates while Stags duo Luke Lemieux/Tyler Parks were also defeated, 8-2, by the Hawks' Grant Boyle/Nick Ringle.
In Flight 1, Solomon defeated Lafayette's Ted Morgan, 6-2, 6-2, in the round of eight to advance to the quarterfinals. In the quarterfinals, Solomon battled but was edged, 7-5, 6-2, by Boston University's Nick Bybel. In Flight 2, Amyot was edged by Saint Joseph's Kevin Gates, 6-2, 6-3, in the round of eight.
In Flight 3, Colliard battled but ultimate fell, 7-5, 3-6, 10-7, to Peter Dewitt from Saint Joseph's while Parks was defeated, 6-2, 7-5, by Drexel's Daniel Hansen. In Flight 4, rookie Hosain fell to the Dragons' Vuk Subotic, 6-4, 6-1, while classmate Lemieux was edged, 4-6, 6-3, 10-6, by Villanova's Alastair Hurry. Rounding out singles play for the Stags was Gabriel Pamich who fell, 6-3, 6-2, to Boston University's William Szamosszegi.
The Fairfield men's tennis team will continue action at the Saint Joseph's Invitational tomorrow. The Stags will begin with doubles play starting at 9:30am.
