Steve Burak Wins Rutgers Invitational, Men's Golf Takes Third

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – Senior Steve Burak was crowned the Rutgers Invitational champion while the Fairfield University men's golf placed third overall at the tournament held at the Rutgers University Golf Course this afternoon.

The Stags shot a collective 290 during the final round of play on Saturday for a 54-hole, three-round score of 862. Fairfield was two strokes behind Rutgers University (860) and three strokes behind tournament winner Wofford College (859).

Burak carded a one-over 72 during the final round of play. He finished the tournament with a 206 (68-66-72), one stroke ahead of Rutgers' Jacob Stockl. Wagner's Anton Frondelius was third with a 208.

Senior Ricky Dowling finished tied for 18th overall after posting a five-over 218 (72-73-73) for the tournament. Freshman Eric Austin had his best round on Saturday with a two-under 69. He finished 23rd overall with a six-over 219 (76-74-69) for the tournament.

Senior Patrick Lynch carded a 223 (75-72-76) to finished tied for 31st overall. Sophomore Alex Ferrante finished four strokes behind with a 227 (72-78-77) to tie for 51st overall.

Fairfield has a quick turnaround as it heads to the Hartford Hawks Invitational, September 22-23.
