Women?s Golf Stands in Second After Second Day at MAACs

LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Fairfield University women's golf team is in second place after the second round of play at the 2014 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships. The Stags shot a combined 673 (342-331) on the par-72, 6,006-yard Disney's Palm Golf Course.  

Junior Emma Ritzmann was the top finisher for Fairfield. Ritzmann took five strokes off her first round score to card a 77 and finish with a total 159, good for second overall. She is only six strokes shy of individual leader Kylie Strijek from Siena.

Sophomore Michelle Applegate carded a 165 (78-87) to finish tied for seventh overall. Junior Katie Rockwell took ten strokes off her first round score, to finish the day with an 83 (+11). Rockwell climbed up eight places since yesterday, to finish tied for 26th overall with a 176.

Rookie Jackie Schofield posted a pair of 89s to card a total score of 178 and tie for 30th overall. Classmate Danielle Dalsessandro took 11 strokes off her first round score, to card an 84. Dalsessandro is tied for 32nd overall with a total 179.

Siena shot a 642 (319-323) to finish first in the conference after the second round of competition. Quinnipiac (340-335) is tied for third, with Albany (343-332), posting scores of 675. Monmouth is a close fifth with a 678 (342-336). Rounding out the tournament, are Niagara (341-348) and Hartford (350-339) who are tied for sixth place with scores of 689.

The Stags will continue action at the 2014 MAAC Championships with the final round beginning at 8:45am tomorrow.
