ANNAPOLIS, Md. – After the final third round at the Navy Spring Classic, the Fairfield University women's golf team captured the title with a 12-stroke advantage. Individually, junior Emma Ritzmann placed second after shooting a final 251 on the par-72, 6,005-yard course at the Naval Academy Golf Club.
The Stags posted an overall score of 1031 (342-346-343) while Navy finished second with a score of 1043. Monmouth placed third (1054) while St. Francis Brooklyn followed in fourth place with a final score of 1113.
Ritzmann shot an 84 (+12) in the final round, cutting one stroke off her score in the first round (85) to finish with a 251 (+35). Ritzmann was only nine strokes behind tournament leader Renata Bucker who registered a 242 (77-82-83).
Junior Katie Rockwell finished in third place after shooting a 253 (86-83-84). Sophomore Michelle Applegate turned in a score of 264 (85-87-92) to place seventh overall. Freshman Jackie Schofield shot her best round today, taking 11 strokes off her second round score of 94. Schofield carded a final of 269 (92-94-83) while freshman Danielle Dalsessandro shot a 277 (86-95-96).
Fairfield is back in action on April 25-27 when the Stags compete at the 2014 MAAC Championships at Disney's Palm Golf Course.
