NEW HAVEN, Conn. - The Fairfield University men's golf team wrapped up play at the Yale MacDonald Cup on Sunday, October 5. The Stags finished in eighth place overall, carding a two-day team score of 594 (300-294) at the Yale Golf Course.
Rookie Eric Austin was the top finisher for the Stags. Austin carded an overall 144 (71-73) to finish tied for 13th place. Senior Ricky Dowling shot his best round of the tournament, taking 11 strokes off his first round score, to card a 69 and finish tied for 31st place with an overall 149 (+9).
Senior Patrick Lynch followed closely behind, carding an overall 151 (77-74) to finish tied for 43rd place. Rounding out play for Fairfield was Steve Burak who finished tied for 49th with an overall 153 (75-78) and Alex Ferrante who finished tied for 60th with an overall 157 (77-80).
The host Bulldogs captured the team title after posting a score of 596 (286-283). Harvard was a close second, posting a 570 (289-281), with Kennesaw State University following in third carding a 575 (295-280). In fourth place was Princeton with a final 581 (296-285) while Dartmouth was a close fifth with a 585 (301-284). Sixth place was notched by the University of Pennsylvania, scoring a 586 (295-291), while St. Edward's University took seventh with a 593 (297-296).
Following the Stags, who placed eighth with a 594 (300-294), was Fordham with a 596 (300-296). In 10th place was Bryant with a final 600 (306-294) while Towson was a close 11th with a 603 (303-300). Thirteenth place was notched by Sacred Heart, tallying a 606 (306-300), while Brown finished in the final 14th spot, with a 611 (308-303).
The men's golf team will return to the course on October 13-14 when the Stags head to Manchester, Conn. to compete at the UConn Invitational at the Ellington Ridge Golf Course.
