Men's Golf Captures The NEIGA Championship Title

BREWSTER, Mass. - The Fairfield University men's golf team ended their 2014 fall campaign on a high note, clinching the 80th NEIGA Championships team title on Monday, October 27. The Stags shot a collective two-day team score of 601 (300-301) on the par-72, Captains Golf Course.

Senior Steve Burak and rookie Eric Austin paced the Stags, carding two-day scores of 149 (+5) to finish tied for fifth overall. In the final round, Burak was one stroke behind his first round 74 while Austin carded his best round of the tournament. Austin took three strokes off his first round score, to card a second round 73, and move up four places in the standings. Both Burak and Austin received All-New England Team - NCAA Division I honors. 

Sophomore Alex Ferrante also shot his tournament best round second, taking two strokes off his first round score to card a 75. Ferrante moved up two slots from the first round to finish tied for ninth overall with one other competitor.

Senior Peter Repetto finished with a two-day 153 (73-80) to finish tied for 11th overall. Rounding out the Stags' effort was classmate Patrick Lynch who finished with a final 157 (79-78) to tie for 22nd place.  

The tournament runner-up was UMass Lowell with a 607 (+31). Close behind in third place was the University of Rhode Island, with a final 608 (306-302). Central Connecticut State and the College of Holy Cross tied for fourth, with 612s (+36) apiece. Following in sixth place was Providence with a two-day 626 while Bryant finished in the seventh and final spot, with a collective team score of 627.

The Fairfield men's golf team has now concluded their 2014 fall campaign. The Stags had a successful fall run, in which they captured one team title and two individual titles. At the 2014 ECAC Championships, on September 29-30, senior Ricky Dowling won the individual crown while leading the team to a second place finish. At the Rutgers Invitational, on September 19-20, classmate Burak took the individual title while pacing the Stags to third place finish.
