Dowling Captures Individual Crown at the ECAC Championship

MIDDLEFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University's Ricky Dowling from the men's golf team captured the individual crown at the 2014 ECAC Championship this afternoon. Dowling set a new competition course record with a final round 64 (-8) at the Lyman Orchards-Robert Trent Jones Course. The men's golf team finished in second place with a collective score of 582 (288-294), just five strokes behind team champion University of Rhode Island.

Dowling paced the Stags on the final day of competition, taking nine strokes off his first round score. The senior finished with an overall score of 139, to win ECAC All-Tournament Team honors. The runner-up, Makenzie Denver from the University of Rhode Island, tied for the lowest two-day score of 139 (73-66). Senior Steve Burak shot a second round score of 77, recording a final score of 148 to place eighth overall.

Senior Patrick Lynch and rookie Eric Austin tied for ninth place overall with Thomas McHugh from Iona. Lynch carded a final round score of 80 while Austin shot a second round 75 to total 149 two-day scores. Sophomore Conner Beakey rounded out play for Fairfield, totaling a 152 (74-78) to finish tied for 15th overall.

University of Rhode Island sits atop the team leaderboard after posting a score of 577. Fairfield was a close second, totaling 582. Iona College placed third with a 596 (298-298) while Saint Peter's finished in fourth, totaling a score of 599 (300-299). Rider scored a final 622 (312-310) to place fifth while Saint Francis-NY finished in sixth with a 722 (370-352).

Fairfield will return to action this weekend. The Stags will travel to New Haven, Conn. on October 4-5 to compete at the Yale MacDonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course.
