The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams kicked off the 2013 season by taking home the team titles at the Sixth Annual Fr. W. Laurence O'Neil, S.J. Invitational held this morning on the Fairfield University campus.

The women's team finished with 41 points followed by Central Connecticut State University (54), Stevens Institute of Technology (59), and Hofstra University (71). Central Connecticut's Shannon McBride won the women's 4K with a time of 16:23.81.

Freshman Stef Vickers was the runner-up in the women's 4K with a time of 16:37.28 in her collegiate debut. Freshman Hayley Roberts finished seventh overall with a time of 17:09.42 while junior Michael Therrien finished eighth in 17:15.72.

Senior Molly Leidig placed 11th with a time of 17:22.90 while freshman Sarah Morrissette was close behind in 17:24.36. Senior Juli Bassett stopped the clock in 17:35.75 while classmate Hillary Maxson finished in 17:48.47. Senior Danica Ceballos posted a time of 17:49.91 and was followed by sophomore Kathleen Woods in 18:00.75, freshman Julia Wood in 18:39.94, and sophomore Deirdre Simms in 18:56.06.

The men's team tied with Central Connecticut for the team title as both teams finished with 47 points. Stevens was third (58) while Hofstra was fourth (66). Central Connecticut's Patrick Hubbell captured the men's 5K with a time of 16:19.63.

In their first meet as Stags, freshman Nolan Parsley took third with a time of 16:43.61 while classmate Mike Flanagan finished fifth with a time of 16:51.69. Sophomore Dan DeBlock was eighth overall with a time of 17:13.93 while junior Kyle Wegner crossed the line in 17:35.25 to place 13th overall. Sophomore Frank Segreto rounded out the group with a time of 17:47.09 to place 18th overall.

The Fairfield men have won a total of four O'Neil Invitational titles while the Fairfield women have won three titles.

Fairfield returns to action on September 7 when the Stags travel to Van Cortlandt Park for the Fordham Fiasco. The event begins at 10am.
