STAMFORD, Conn.  – The Fairfield University men's tennis team topped Boston University, 4-3, this evening at Stamford Indoor. Sophomore George Tioutine clinched the match at fourth singles to help the Stags improve to 7-3 overall this season.
 
Tioutine pulled out a grueling 7-5, 7-5 victory at No. 4 singles against familiar foe Emilio Teran. The two squared off last season in Boston with Tioutine topping Teran to secure Fairfield's 4-3 win in that match.
 
After the Terriers duo of Stefan Lemire and Michael Kopelman picked up an 8-3 win at third doubles, the Stags No. 1 and No. 2 secured the all-important doubles points in tight matches. At the top spot, Ofir Solomon and Dennis Zlobinsky pulled out an 8-6 victory over Josh Friedman and Chanon Varapongsittikul. Cameron Amyot and Erik Kremheller won the doubles point for the Stags with an 8-6 victory over Jesse Frieder and Teran at No. 3 doubles.
 
In singles, Boston University notched wins at No. 2 singles with Varapongsittikul defeating Zlobinsky, 6-2, 6-3., and at No. 5 singles with Lemire topping Amyot, 6-4, 6-1. Fairfield evened the match, 2-2, at No. 1 singles as Kremheller topped Friedman, 6-3, 7-6(5) and then took a 3-2 lead with Solomon's 6-0, 4-6, 6-3 victory over Frieder at No. 3 singles.
 
After Tioutine clinched the win at fourth singles, BU's Eric Miller edged R.J. Mirabile, 6-2, 6-3, at sixth singles.
 
Fairfield returns to action on March 27 when Marist College visits the Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts at 3pm.
