FAIRFIELD, Conn. - Fairfield University Head Coach Alija Pittenger recorded her 100th career victory as the Stags came from behind to defeat Marist College 3-2 (21-25, 28-26, 25-22, 16-25, 15-12) this evening at Alumni Hall. Senior Rachel Romansky and sophomore Hadley Orr each posted double-doubles for the Stags while several others were in double digits as Fairfield won its third-straight.

Romansky tallied her eighth double-double of the year with 48 assists and 11 digs. The setter moved closer to a pair of career milestones as she now needs two digs for the 1,000th of her career and 19 assists for the 4,000th of her career. She will be only the second Stag in program history to record 4,000 assists and 1,000 digs in a career.

Orr had her second double-double of the year with 12 kills and 12 digs along with two total blocks. Junior Marilyn Peizer notched a match-high 15 kills with seven digs and a career-high seven total blocks. Freshman Bella Guanciale also set a career-high with 27 digs.

Senior Hayley Moyer had 11 kills, including the 600th of her career, on .500 hitting and four total blocks while junior Caitlin Stapleton had 12 kills and three total blocks. For the second match in a row, junior Lindsay Weaver tied a career-high with seven total blocks and also posted eight kills.

Junior Camille Coffey added 10 digs and two assists while Carsen Mata had eight digs and three assists.

In the first set, the Stags erased a four point deficit to tie the frame, 17-17, on a kill by Peizer. Moyer followed with a kill of her own and then teamed with Peizer for a block to give the Stags the 19-17 advantage. The Red Foxes countered with an 8-2 run to come away with a 25-21 win.

In the second set, it was Marist's turn to erase a deficit, storming back from five points down to tie the score 16-16 on an ace by Brooke Zywick. Fairfield returned its lead to four points, 23-19, but Marist (10-6; 4-2 MAAC) would hold off set point four times to overtake the Stags, 25-24. With the score knotted at 26-26, Orr put the Stags ahead with a kill while Moyer put down a kill of her own for the win.

Fairfield dominated much of the third set and fought off a late rally by Marist to pull out the 25-22. In the fourth stanza, Marist surged out an 8-3 lead but Fairfield chipped away tying it 13-13 on a solo block by Peizer. The Red Foxes responded with a 9-1 run as they cruised to a 25-16 win to force a fifth set.

In the deciding game, Fairfield jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Marist came back once again to tie it, 6-6, on a kill by Grace Hill. The Stags responded with a 5-0 run to take an 11-6 advantage. The Red Foxes closed the gap to 14-12 but Peizer put the match away with a kill.

Zywick tallied 31 digs for Marist while Audra Brady had a double-double with 52 assists and 10 digs to go along with eight kills.

Fairfield (6-11; 4-3 MAAC) returns to action this weekend as it hosts Canisius on October 12 and Niagara on October 13. Both matches start at 1pm in Alumni Hall.
