Box Score

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – Fairfield University senior Kara Reis became the program leader in career digs and served 20 consecutive points to help power the Stags volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-20, 25-6, 25-14) victory over Marist College this afternoon at Alumni Hall. Fairfield, which has won five straight matches, improved to 12-7 overall and to 7-2 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).

Reis, who entered the match tied for the career lead in digs, notched her historic dig on the Stags' third point of the day. She finished the match with 22 digs to bring her career total to 1,696, surpassing the previous standard of 1,674 set by Lindsey Lee in 2007. Reis also added two aces, four assists, and even a kill.

In addition, Reis nearly made history in the second set as she served 20 consecutive points, two points short of the NCAA record; the streak stands as the second-best single match effort in NCAA history. Reis stepped back to serve when the Stags trailed 6-5, when she was done, Fairfield had toppled Marist, 25-6. The six points are the fewest allowed by the Stags in a non-deciding set since 2005 when Fairfield posted a 30-7 victory over Siena College.

Junior setter Rachel Romansky also reached a career milestone, notching her 3,000th career assist to become one of just three Stags in program history to complete the feat. Romansky, who has 3,028 assists to her credit, finished the match with 31 assists and eight digs.

Sophomore Caitlin Stapleton notched a match-high 15 kills on .522 hitting to go along with four total blocks. Sophomore Camille Coffey recorded 10 kills on .368 hitting with six digs and a season-high three total blocks. Junior Hayley Moyer added five kills on .357 hitting with five total blocks. Sophomore Lindsay Weaver chipped in with three total blocks.

In the first set, Fairfield was trailing 11-10 when a kill by Stapleton tied it, igniting a big run by the Stags. After Stapleton's kill, sophomore Carsen Mata proceeded to serve 10 consecutive points to give Fairfield a 21-11 lead. Marist was able to come back, holding off set point five times before Brianna Dixion slammed down a kill for the 25-20 victory.

After picking up the victory in the second stanza on .500 hitting, the Stags carried the momentum into the third set. Fairfield jumped out to a 10-3 lead and never looked back in the 25-14 win.

The Stags hit a collective .309 for the match with 42 kills. Fairfield out-blocked Marist 8.0-6.5.
