Cross Country Heads To Iona Meet Of Champions On S

The men's and women's cross country teams heads to the 17th Annual Br. John “Paddy” Doyle Iona Meet of Champions at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday, September 17. The women's 6K will begin at 9:30am while the men's 8K is slated to begin at 10:15am.

The women's field also consists of numerous regionally ranked squads. Iona, is ranked No. 14 in the Northeast, while Boston College (7th), No. 8 Pennsylvania, and No. 10 Lehigh highlight the field. Rounding out the DI field are Albany, Army, Brown, Columbia, Conn. College, Fairfield, Hofstra, Manhattan, Marist, Morgan State, Siena, St. John's and Temple. Division II No. 14 Edinboro, No. 19 Millersville, East Region No. 4 UMass-Lowell, and South No. 8 West Florida will also comprise the field.

Last year, Kristen Golen was Fairfield's top-finisher at the event with a time of 24:13.76 to finish among the top-80.

The men's field is highlighted by host and No. 4 ranked Iona College and nine regionally ranked Division I teams. The Mid-Atlantic region is represented No. 7 Penn, No. 10 Lehigh and No. 14 Temple. The Gaels' Northeast rivals in the meet consist of Columbia (5th), Marist (9th), Albany (10th), Brown (11th) and Army (15th). Rounding out the Division I squads are Boston College, Fairfield, Hofstra, Manhattan, Morgan State, and Siena. There are several ranked Division II and III squads participating as well including No. 9 Edinboro (1st, Atlantic) along with No. 11 UMass-Lowell (1st, East).

Last season, Benjamin Heslin, Howie Rosas, and Matt Brunelle posted three of the top-four fastest 8K times by a Stag at Van Cortlandt Park. Heslin clocked a time of 26:10.95 while Rosas notched a time of 26:18.08 and Brunelle finished in 26:36.05. The men's team placed 13th overall at the event.
