BALTIMORE, Md. – The women's tennis team improved to 7-7 overall, and 3-0 in conference play topping the Greyhounds 5-0 at Loyola on Saturday.
The doubles point was earned in the first and second spots, starting with Fairfield's duo of
Monica Yajima and
Caroline Emhardt who topped Rachel Janasek and Joy Johnson 8-5 at first doubles.
Kristen Liu and
Sharissa Ryan were also victorious in the No. 2 spot with their 8-5 win over Scarlett Hoy and Judy Lite. At the No. 3 spot,
Alyssa Ruiz and
Victoria Pirrello were unable to hold of Tiffany Ash and Andie Keyser-Baker and fell 8-2.
Singles play was cut short due to time, but the Stags were able to win the four matches that were finished. At first singles, Yajima topped Rachel Janasek 6-3, 6-4 while Ryan continued her strong singles play and defeated Sabrina Fedele 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 2 spot. After splitting the first two sets, Liu prevailed over Scarlett Hoy 6-3, 6-4, 1-0(10-5) in the No. 3 spot. Emhardt was the last player to have time to finish her match, and defeated Joy Johnson in a close 7-6(6-0), 7-5 match at fourth singles.
The women's tennis team returns to action April 5 when they travel across town to take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers in a 3pm match.
