Men's Golf Finishes 8th At New England Championshi

MIDDLETON, R.I. – The Fairfield University men's golf team finished 8th overall out of 13 teams at the New England Division I Championship on Newport National Golf Course this weekend. The Stags improved their first round score by six strokes to finish the 36-hole event with a 626 total. Central Connecticut State University shaved 12 strokes off their first round score to come from behind and top Sacred Heart to be the overall leader with a team score of 590. Scott Rainaud continued to pace the Stags by shooting a team best 76 on the second round, to finish the two days with a 153 total, and tied for 21st overall. Nick Taylor finished with a 155 total after shooting a 78 and 77 on the two rounds while Brendan O'Brien ended the tournament with a 159. Brendan Carr and Joe Macaluso both improved their day one totals to round out the scoring for the Stags. Carr shaved six strokes off his first round shooting a 77 on the second for a 160 total, and Macaluso improved his score by two, shooting an 80 on the second round, and a 162 two-day total.

The men's golf team returns to action April 18-19 when they participate in the Mount St. Mary's Invitational at the Quail Valley Country Club. The event will be the last tournament before MAAC Championships in Orlando, Fl.
