JERSEY CITY, N.J. – The women's tennis team began conference play with a dominating performance at Saint Peter's College Saturday afternoon. The Stags blanked the Peahens 7-0 to improve their overall record to 3-4.
In singles play, Sharissa Ryan defeated Alex Livingston 6-3, 6-1 in her first match in the No. 1 position. Kristen Liu topped Krysten Chen 6-4, 6-4 at second singles, while Nikki Jackson took care of Joniesa Williams 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 3 spot. At No. 4 singles, Caroline Emhardt handled Ivana Grbeita 6-3, 6-3. Alyssa Ruiz dominated Vanessa Vogel 6-1, 6-1 at No. 5 singles, and Victoria Pirrello defeated Jessica Nowogrodzki 6-2, 6-3 at sixth singles.
The Stags had an impressive day in doubles play as well, winning every match against the Peahens. At first doubles, Stag duo of Jackson and Ryan were up 6-4 against Krysten Chen and Joneisa Williams before the match was stopped. Liu and Emhardt paired up to defeat Alex Livingston and Ivana Grbeita 8-1 at No. 2 doubles. At third doubles, Pirrello and Ruiz topped Vanessa Vogel and Lanea Enoh-Jarisson 8-1.
The Fairfield University women's tennis team returns to action March 12 when they travel to Albany and take on the Great Danes in a 1pm match.
