AMHERST, Mass. – The Fairfield University women's tennis team fell to UMass this afternoon in a 6-1 match at the Road Tennis Club at Hampshire College.
Fairfield's lone point in the match came at first singles with Sharissa Ryan's victory over Yuliana Motyl 6-2, 6-3. Julia Comas topped Kristen Liu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 2 singles, while Candyce Boney was beating Nikki Jackson 6-4, before Jackson retired. At fourth singles, Caroline Emhardt fell to Jessica Podlofsky 6-0, 6-1, and Alyssa Ruiz was defeated by Chantel Swiszez 6-0, 6-3 in the fifth singles spot. Rounding out singles play was Victoria Pirrello who fell to Kaitlyn Carpenter 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6 singles.
In doubles play, Stags duo of Jackson and Ryan fell to Yuliana Motyl and Chantel Swiszez 8-2 at No. 1 dboules. UMass' Candyce Boney and Tanisha Hodgson topped Emhardt and Liu 8-1 at the second spot, while Jessica Podofsky and Kaitlyn Carpenter defeated Ruiz and Pirrello 8-1 at third doubles.
The Stags return to action Wednesday, March 30, when they host Quinnipiac in a 3pm match on Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts.
