STAMFORD, Conn. – The men's tennis team fell in a close 4-3 match to the University of Delaware this weekend. The Stags took the doubles point in the match as
Joe Michalisin (Melville, N.Y.) and
Erik Kremheller (Riverside, Conn.) topped Courtney Scott and Chris Hincker 8-4 at No. 1 doubles. Fairfield duo of
Bjorn Merinder (Andover, Mass.) and
Dan Sauter (Franklin Lakes, N.J.) defeated Ryan Kent and Robert Kay 8-6 at second doubles. Freshmen pair of
Reece Breault (Binningen, Switzerland) and
Dennis Zlobinsky lost to Troy Beneck and Andre Vorobyov, 8-3.
Zlobinsky and Kremheller both won their singles matches at the No. 3 and No. 4 spot respectively. After falling in the first set 2-6, Zlobinsky rebounded to take the next two sets, and prevailed over Andre Vorobyov, 6-3, 10-2. In the fourth spot, Kremheller defeated Chris Hincker 6-3, 6-3.
The match was decided at first singles where Delaware's Courtney Scott topped Sauter 6-4, 6-2. Michalisin dropped his singles match to Troy Beneck at No. 2 singles 6-4, 6-0.
Rob Ferrante (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) battled it out with Jeff Marshall in the first set, but lost the match 7-6(11), 6-2 at fifth singles. Rounding out the scoring for the Stags was Breault who was topped by Ryan Kent 6-4, 6-2 at sixth singles.
The men's tennis team is now 5-3 overall, and returns to action Wednesday, March 16 against UConn on Walsh Athletic Center Tennis Courts. The match time is set for 3pm.
