WEST POINT, N.Y. – The Fairfield University fell to Army 5-2, in the first of their two-match weekend on Saturday.
In doubles play, Stag duo of
Monica Yajima (Greenwich, Conn.) and
Carolina Koladzyn (New York, N.Y.)fell in a hard fought match to Army's Anne Houghton and Margaret Iliev 9-7 at first doubles. At No. 2 doubles,
Sharissa Ryan (Bedford Hills, N.Y.)and
Nikki Jackson (Hackensack, N.J.) were topped Annie Hang and Erin Colton 8-5. At No. 3 doubles,
Kristen Liu (Closter, N.J.) and
Caroline Emhardt (Carmel, Ind.) were defeated by Army's Larraine Saavedra and Carly Riney in a close 8-6 match.
Both Yajima and Ryan won their singles matches, and earned the only points in the dual-match for the Stags. At first singles, Yajima split the first two sets, but was able to hold off Army's Annie Houghton in a well played 6-2, 2-6, 7-5 match. Ryan also came out victorious in her three-set match as she defeated Erin Colton 4-6, 6-2, 10-3.
At No. 3 singles, Koladzyn was defeated by Annie Hang 6-3, 6-4 and Liu fell to Della Taylor 6-2, 6-3 at the No. 4 spot. Margaret Iliev topped Emhardt 6-3, 6-4 at fifth singles, and Emily Stein blanked Jackson 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Stags return to action at Army when they play St. John's Sunday. The match time is set for 9:30am.
