FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's and women's cross country teams were victorious at the Fr. W. Laurence O'Neil Invitational this morning on the Stags home course.
Freshman
Maureen Crimmins was the runner-up in the women's 5K, finishing in a time of 19:19, four seconds behind winner Alexis Bivone of Wagner College. In her final home meet as a Stag, captain
Kristen Golen placed third overall with a time of 19:29. Freshman
Danielle Renzi was fourth with a time of 19:37 while junior
Sam Goodnow was fifth overall in 19:45. Sophomore
Molly Leidig was sixth overall after notching a personal best of 19:54. Freshman
Cate Forte recorded a time of 20:12 to place eighth overall.
In their final home meet, seniors
Emily Davis and
Lauren Londregan finished back-to-back with times of 20:17 and 20:26 to place ninth and tenth, respectively. Senior
Caroline Riley was 11th overall with a time of 20:41 in her final meet at home. Classmates
Nikki Livesey and
Kelly Kramer also finished in the top-20 with Livesey recording a time of 21:04 and Kramer posting a 21:17.
Sophomore
Danica Ceballos posted a time of 20:49 to place 15th while junior
Meghan Sullivan finished 17th in 20:54. Sophomore
Hillary Maxson finished in 21:36.
Sophomore
Howie Rosas was the runner-up in the men's 8K, posting a time of 26:40. Wagner's Zachary Spector won the event with a time of 26:24. Freshman
Connor Kelley placed third overall with a time of 26:44 while classmate
Jake Ruskan was fourth with a time of26:48. Senior
Matt Brunelle placed sixth overall with a time of 26:58 while sophomore
John Lobo was seventh in 27:01. Senior captain
Steve Flanagan forged a time of 27:07 to place eighth overall while junior
Kyle Short finished in 27:22 to place ninth.
The Stags took the next five spots, beginning with freshman
Kyle Wegner who ran a time of 27:27 to place tenth. Sophomore
Brian Cleary was next in 27:53 and was followed by junior
Greg Chase in 27:59, senior
Vin Ferrer in 28:08, and junior
Dylan Fisher in 28:09. Freshman
Sam Tooley placed 16th with a time of 28:17 while senior
Matt Boley was next in 29:12, and junior
Ernie Lustenring followed in 29:12.
The Fairfield men won the team title with 22 points while Wagner was second with 48. The University of New Haven placed third while the University of Bridgeport was fourth. On the women's side, the Stags won the team title with 20 points while Wagner was the runner-up with 44. New Haven was third while Bridgeport took fourth.
Fairfield has concluded the non-championship portion of its schedule. The Stags are back in action on October 28 when they compete at the 2011 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship at Van Cortlandt Park in the Bronx, N.Y.
