Flushing Meadows, N.Y. - The Fairfield University women's tennis team had a solid day winning every match except one that was suspended due to weather this evening at Manahattan.

Freshman Monica Yajima (Greenwich, Conn.) battled it out with Lili Johnson, 6-2, 3-6, 10-6 at No. 1 singles. Classmate Sharissa Ryan (Bedford Hills, N.Y.) had a strong performance and defeated Christina Ton 6-0 in both matches. At No. 3 singles, sophomore Nikki Jackson (Hackensack, N.J.) beat Christina Puleo 6-0, 6-3. Freshman Caroline Emhardt (Carmel, Ind.) downed Stephanie Tsao 6-3, 6-1 at No. 4 singles. Senior Alyssa Ruiz (Glend Head, N.Y.) also blanked her opponent, Brianna Turano 6-0 in both matches. Rounding out the Stags singles matches was freshman Victoria Pirrello (Staten Island, N.Y.). At No. 6 singles, Pirrello defeated Megan Maffei 6-2, and then battled a 5-4 match until it was suspended because of weather. 

At first doubles, Fairfield duo Monica Yajima and Caroline Emhardt defeated Lili Johnson, and Christina Puleo 8-6. Alyssa Ruiz and Sharissa Ryan also won their doubles match by defeating Manhattan duo of Hilary Valenzuela and Stephanie Tsao 8-4. At third doubles, Sharissa Jackson and Victoria Pirrello also defeated Jasper pair of Brianna Turano and Megan Maffei 8-4.

The Stags continue their fall 2010 season October 9th when they return back to Flushing Meadows, N.Y. for the three day long USTA Invitational.
