BREWSTER, Mass. - The 36-hole, 76th Annual NEIGA Championship concluded today on the Captains Golf Course on Cape Cod. 

The New England Intercollegiate Golf Association has been in existence since 1934 and includes 44 member colleges and universities in New England and is considered to be the oldest and largest golf tournament.

Fairfield men's golf team jumped seven positions from 14th after round one, to tie with St. Anslem College for seventh place overall with a team total of 617. The Stags improved their day one team score by 15 strokes to finish with a 301 on the day. The University of Rhode Island remained in the lead after the final day finishing with a +9 36-hole total of 585.

Joe Macaluso paced the Stags finishing the two rounds with a +3 147 total (73, 74). He finished tied for eighth overall, as his first round of 73 marked the Stags' lowest round of the weekend. Scott Rainaud placed 24th overall after improving his first round score of 78, by three with a round two 75 to finish with a 153 (+9). 

Senior Sean Deale also improved his day one score by a team high eight strokes after shooting a second round of 75. He finished with a two day total of 158. Two strokes behind Deale was sophomore Brendan Carr who also shot a better second round following his first round of 83 with a second of 18 shooting a 77. Nick Taylorshot a consistent 82 on both days to finish out the scoring for the Stags with a 164 total.

The 74th Annual New England Intercollegiate Golf Association Championship marks the last tournament for the Stags' 2010 fall season. The Fairfield men's golf team finished 10th or better in all five of their fall tournaments with a team best third place finish at the ECAC Championships. ECAC Championship also marked senior Sean Deale's sixth place overall finish, which was the best on the team throughout the fall. Scott Rainaud shot a team low  70 in the third round at the Connecticut Cup.
