Golf Heads to the ECAC Championships This Weekend

FAIRFIELD, Conn. - The Fairfield University men’s and women’s golf teams are back in action September 29-30 as they co-host the ECAC Championship at Lyman Orchards in Middlefield, Conn.   

Fairfield at the ECAC Championship (Men): The Stags were last at the ECAC Championship during Fall 2013. That year, Fairfield finished second after posting a 36-hole score of 640, only 17 strokes behind team champion Monmouth University. Pacing the Stags' efforts was Ricky Dowling who finished in fourth place with a two-day score of 156. Dowling carded back-to-back rounds of 78. Patrick Lynch also shot a 78, improving his first round score by a stroke to finish in fifth place with a 157 over the two days. Alex Taylor and Alex Ferrante both shot team-best rounds of 77 in the final round to improve on their first round scores. Taylor finished tied for ninth with a 161, while Ferrante carded a two-day 166, good for 14th place.

Fairfield at the ECAC Championship (Women): The Stags were last at the ECAC Championship during Fall 2013. That year, Fairfield finished third after posting a 36-hole score of 673. Olivia Brooks paced the Stags with a seventh-place finish at the event, shooting the team's best round, 80, in the opening round. One stroke back in eighth place was teammate Katie Rockwell who shot 83-84 for the tournament. Emma Ritzmann carved four strokes off of her opening round score for a second-round 82 and finished tied for ninth at 168. Michelle Applegate shot 84-88 to finish tied for 12th, while Sara Quinn carded an 88 to move into a tie for 19th place at 183.

Last Time Out (Men): The Stags were last in action on September 23 when they wrapped up play at the Hartford Hawks Invitational with a 13th place finish. The Stags finished with a three-round score of 922 on the par-72 course at the Bull’s Bridge Golf Club. Individually, sophomore Alex Ferrante had the best round of the tournament for the Stags, shooting a 72 which included a hole-in-one and an eagle. Ferrante finished the tournament with a 238 (82-84-72). Senior Ricky Dowling also had a solid day, shooting a 73 in the final round. He finished with three-round score of 231 which tied him with classmate Steve Burak for 48th overall

Last Time Out (Women): The Stags were last in action on September 14 when they wrapped up play at the Dartmouth Invitational with a seventh place finish. The Stags finished with a two-round score of 634 (+58) on the par-72 course at the Hanover Country Club. Individually, junior Michelle Applegate and senior Katie Rockwell finished the tournament tied for 23rd after each carded a two-round score of 157. Applegate shot an 81 during the second round while Rockwell shot an 80.

Looking Ahead: Fairfield men’s golf is back in action on October 4-5 when the Stags travel to New Haven, Conn. to compete at the Yale MacDonald Cup at the Yale Golf Course. The women’s golf team will return to the course on October 5-6 when they head to Harbortown, Md. to compete at the Delaware State Invitational at the Queenstown Harbor Golf Course.
