FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Basketball team will enter the upcoming MAAC Championships as a nationally-ranked team as the Stags are slotted No. 25 in the latest Associated Press (AP) Top-25 poll. This is the second time in the last three seasons the Stags have been ranked in the top-25 as the Stags garnered national recognition during the 2023-24 campaign.
"While we recognize that polls and rankings aren't the end goal, being ranked in the Top-25 for the second time in three seasons indicates that Fairfield is one of the best women's basketball programs in the country," Head Coach
Carly Thibault-DuDonis said. "I am proud of my staff and student-athletes for the work they've put in over the last four years, and I'm thankful for the investment from the university and administration and their recognition that what we are building is special. We are by no means satisfied and know this puts an even bigger target on our back, but we are grateful for this recognition."
The Stags garnered a share of the MAAC Regular Season Championship after finishing the conference slate with a 19-1 record. The title marked the third-straight regular season championship for the program. Fairfield also reached 25 overall victories which included road wins over Richmond and Villanova with both teams receiving national votes this season. Fairfield also posted a neutral court victory over American Athletic Conference Preseason favorites South Florida.
Fairfield is the nation's top 3-point shooting team, leading the entire country with 11.8 made triples per game. The Stags have already set a conference single-season record with 341 made 3-pointers this year.
The Stags also lead the conference in: scoring offense (76.9 points per game), assists (17.8), field goal percentage (.457), 3-point percentage (.373), and free throw percentage (.769), which all rank in the top-30 in Division I.
Fairfield has allowed only 56.6 points per contest which is the 18th fewest in the nation.
The Stags have now been ranked in the national poll twice in the last three seasons, while receiving votes in three-straight campaigns.
Fairfield will be the two-time defending MAAC Champions and will be the two-seed in the upcoming Air Force Reserve MAAC Championships held at Jim Whalen Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, N.J. Fairfield's first game will be on Friday at 2:30pm against the winner of No. 7 Sacred Heart and No. 10 Saint Peter's.
