EDISON, N.J. – After an historic week that saw her rack up nine points on two goals and a nation-leading five assists, Fairfield University Women's Soccer sophomore
Payton Zaun was named the Metro Conference Offensive Player of the Week. This is Zaun's second career Offensive Player of the Week honor and becomes the fifth different Stag to earn a conference weekly award this season.
"Payton had a great week and displayed an attacking presence we have always known was in her," Head Coach
David Barrett said. "Let's hope she stays on a hot streak with some key games upcoming."
Zaun had a hand in seven of Fairfield's 12 goals on the week helping the Stags stay unbeaten in conference play with a pair of wins.
She started her week by setting a career-high with three assists in the comeback win over Marist. She built on that performance by making a new personal-best six points on a pair of goals and assists against Merrimack. All those points came in a 14-minute span in the second half as Fairfield erased a 1-0 deficit.
With her impressive week, Zaun now ranks seventh in Division I with eight assists that is already in the top-10 in a single season in program history.
She has also helped the Stags remain unbeaten in the Metro with a 7-0 mark which also included a 21-match unbeaten streak in the regular season.
Zaun and the Stags will embark on their trek to Western New York, facing the Niagara Purple Eagles on Saturday at noon.
