Stags Welcome Merrimack on Saturday Afternoon

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will return to the Lessing Field pitch as they compete in their first home match in over two weeks when they welcome the Merrimack Warriors on Saturday at 1pm. The Stags remain the lone unbeaten Metro team with their 6-0 record while out-scoring their conference opponents 20-3 during their six-game winning streak.

The Stags netted five goals in the 5-1 win over Marist, the most goals allowed by the Red Foxes this season. Fairfield continued their balanced offensive attack with six different student-athletes tallying a point with four different goal scorers.

In her return to the lineup, Ashley McMahon led the Stags with a pair of goals, both coming from set pieces. She completed the penalty kick after a hand ball and then struck in a free kick three minutes later to put the Stags up 3-1.

Amelie Stewart kept her scoring prowess by knocking in the tying goal in the first half and has now netted four scores in her last three Metro outings. Ashlyn Walsh and Charlyse Berry completed the scoring with second half goals.

Payton Zaun was the orchestrator of the offense, setting a career-high with three assists.

Fairfield enters play as the top offensive team in the conference, leading the Metro in: points (81), goals (28), and assists (25). Fourteen different players have recorded at least one point.

During the game, the Stags will honor all those impacted by breast cancer and will be collecting donations for the Norma Pfriem Breast Center. T-shirts will also be on sale during the match with all funds going to the organization. This initiative is part of Fairfield athletics' Herd For A Cure program.

Merrimack enters with a 2-7-3 overall record and an 0-4-2 mark in the Metro after tying Manhattan and Saint Peter's. Isabella Keogh is the team's leading scorer with six goals.

Fairfield will hit the road for their longest road trip in Metro play, traveling to Niagara on Saturday, Oct. 17 at noon.
