FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University Women's Soccer team will travel to Poughkeepsie, N.Y., to face off against the Marist Red Foxes on Wednesday night at 7pm. The matchup will pit the top-two teams in the Metro Conference with the Stags leading the league with an unblemished 5-0 mark.
The Stags will be playing their first match in over a week after having an 11-day layoff since their road win over the Mount.
Amelie Stewart was the offensive force in that match, scoring both of Fairfield's goals in the 2-0 victory. She totaled three scores on the week leading to her first-ever weekly award as she earned the Metro Offensive Player of the Week honor.
Fairfield enters play leading the league in: goals (23), points (66), and assists (20). Their offense has been built on chances and pressuring the defense which has resulted in 21.5 shots and 9.6 shots on goal per game, both ranking second in the country.
Fairfield's offense has been balanced with 13-different student-athletes tallying at least one point and nine scoring at least one goal.
The Stags are the lone remaining unbeaten Metro team in conference play with a 5-0 record. They are also riding a 19-match regular season unbeaten streak against conference opponents while taking a point in 33 of their last 34 matches.
Marist will bring in a two-match winning streak and is also coming off a shutout road victory over the Mount their last time out. Margaret Johnson is the team's leading scorer with three goals. Samantha Graf has started all 11 matches in net with a 1.11 goals against average and a 0.67 mark in conference play.
The Stags will next return home and host Merrimack on Saturday afternoon at 1pm.
