Men's Soccer Heads To #17 Marist For Wednesday Night Match

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University men's soccer team will close out its two-game road trip with a match at Marist University on Wednesday night. The Stags and the Red Foxes will get underway at 7 pm.

Fairfield split its first two Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) games in 2025, opening with a victory against Niagara University at home before being edged by Siena College on the road. Marist moved up three spots to the number 17 slot in this week's United Soccer Coaches' Division I rankings, bringing a 6-0-2 overall record and a 2-0-0 mark in MAAC play.

Against Siena, the Stags applied pressure throughout the match but could not solve the Saints' defense. The team put nine shots toward goal with three being on target but the Stags ended up without a goal for only the second time in eight matches this year. Siena managed 11 shots with seven being on goal, forcing Fairfield goalkeeper Evan Chomow to make six saves over 90 minutes.

Marist remained unbeaten after posting a 2-1 win at Mount St. Mary's courtesy of goals from Gijs Verheul and Ethan Ortiz. Jamie Lowell needed to make just one save in the Marist goal and earned his third clean sheet of the season. He lowered his goals against average to 0.88 and improved his save percentage to .788 off 26 saves. Verheul's goal was the fourth of the season, placing him just one goal ahead of Adriano Iannello for the team lead.

The Stags have a pair of freshmen who are leading the team with three goals each, namely Sean Albritton and Alex Vaz. Albritton is responsible for two of the team's game-winning goals, one more than Pipelore Olanrewaju. Olanrewaju has two goals to his credit, both of which came in the team's 2-0 decision over Niagara. Chomow continues to put up impressive numbers with his 1.25 goals against average and .778 save percentage.

Following the Marist match, the Stags will return home to Lessing Field for a conference game against Iona University. The Stags and the Gaels will meet at 7 pm. Fairfield will alternate between home and away matches over the next four dates before finishing up its home schedule with a pair of contests on October 25 (Mount St. Mary's) and October 29 (Quinnipiac).
