Softball Begins Play In 2025 MAAC Championship On Thursday

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Fairfield University softball team will open play in the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Thursday, May 8. The Stags will play the winner between third-seeded Iona University and sixth-seeded Rider University at 11:30 am.

Head Coach Julie Brzezinski witnessed her team win five games in the final week of the regular season to earn that second seed, taking a pair of games at Iona before sweeping a three-game set at Quinnipiac. With those wins, Fairfield raised its overall record to 25-24 and finished with an 18-7 MAAC mark.

The 2025 MAAC Championship field includes top-seed and host Marist University (44-7-1 overall record), Iona (28-19), fourth-seeded Siena College (33-19-1), fifth-seeded Canisius University (25-24), Rider (22-32), seventh-seeded Quinnipiac University (19-26), and eighth-seeded Sacred Heart University (21-26).

The Stags own an 8-5 record against teams in the 2025 MAAC Championship. The Stags split a pair of games against Canisius in non-conference play, dropped two games to both Marist and Sacred Heart, swept doubleheaders from Iona and Siena, and finished the season by taking all three games at Quinnipiac. Rider is the only team that the Stags did not face in 2025.

Five Fairfield student-athletes garnered All-MAAC honors this year and the Stags will rely on this quintet as it begins its quest for a fourth MAAC Championship this week. Charli Warren, Alyssa Weinberg, and Delaney Whieldon earned All-MAAC first team honors while Anna Paravati was a second-team pick and the MAAC Defensive Player of the Year. Ava Armuth garnered a MAAC All-Rookie berth.

Warren leads the team with a .381 batting average, stroking 61 hits with a MAAC-best 25 stolen bases to her credit. Weinberg is also among the MAAC leaders with 17 wins, 175 strikeouts, and a 2.24 ERA. Whieldon paces the Fairfield offense with four home runs which complements her .298 batting average and 21 RBI.

Paravati leads the team with 32 RBI by any Stags since Tori Reed and Courtney Hankins posted 37 and 34 RBI respectively during the 2017 season. Paravati also owns a .401 on-base percentage which is aided by her 14 walks. Armuth brings a .278 batting average into the tournament with 11 extra base hits comprised by five doubles, three triples, and three home runs.

Fairfield has won three MAAC tournament titles and advanced to the NCAA tournament on two occasions. The Stags won the conference title for the first time in 1991. The program also captured the championship and the NCAA automatic bid in 2015 (Buffalo, N.Y.) and 2017 (New Rochelle, N.Y.).
