FAIRFIELD, Conn. -- The Fairfield University women's rowing team will continue their historic 2025 campaign by heading to the 2025 NCAA Division I Championship, the program's first trip to the national event. The Stags earned the right to be part of the 22-team field by claiming the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) title and the automatic bid to the NCAA Championship that goes along with the victory.
"The MAAC championship was a wild ride with so many teams competing but I am so proud of the effort put out by this team to get to the top of the point table," Fairfield University Head Women's Rowing Coach
Dr. David Patterson said. "This is an incredible opportunity for these athletes to represent themselves, Fairfield, and the conference. The competition is going to be intense with so many incredible athletes and crews there. We are going to enjoy the experience while giving a really good account of ourselves throughout the Championship."
The Championship will take place on Lake Mercer in West Windsor, N.J beginning on May 30 with the semifinals slated for May 31 and the finals scheduled on June 1. Fairfield was one of nine automatic qualifiers, joining Boston University (Patriot League), Northeastern (Coastal Athletic), Oregon State (West Coast), Rhode Island (Atlantic-10), Stanford (ACC), Central Florida (Big 12), Washington (Big 10), and Yale (Ivy League). The 12 at-large selections included Brown, California, Dartmouth, Harvard, Indiana, Michigan, Pennsylvania, Princeton, Rutgers, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
The Championship begins on Friday, May 30 with the varsity 8 starting off the competition. The Stags will compete in heat 3, joining Boston University, Dartmouth, Tennessee, Rutgers, and California.
