EDISON, N.J. – After an unbeaten week to close out the regular season,
Maeve Cassidy has been named the MAAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week. Cassidy went 2-0 in both singles and doubles to help Fairfield University Women's Tennis secure the #2 seed in the upcoming MAAC Championship.
Cassidy was victorious at #6 singles, winning both of her matches in straight sets, against competition from Quinnipiac and Sacred Heart. Her wins capped a perfect 6-0 slate in MAAC singles play, running her season record to 12-10.
On the doubles courts, Cassidy teamed with
Sarah Liu at #2 in 6-2 win over the Bobcats and then paired with
Nicolette Loeffler in the #2 spot for a 6-4 triumph against the Pioneers. Cassidy and Liu were 3-1 at #2 doubles in MAAC play this season with two matches abandoned.
As the #2 seed in the MAAC Championship, the Stags have earned a bye to the semifinals. Fairfield begins the postseason this Saturday, April 26 against either Niagara or Marist. First serve from Mercer County Park is set for 2 p.m.
